ApplicationsCure Adhesive on Wire
Application:
A manufacturer of light bulbs curing adhesive to set the electrical wires in the metal base of incandescent light bulbs.
Problem:
- Slow Curing Time - The existing convection heating tunnel did not consistently result in the adhesive being cured by the time the light bulbs were packaged.
- Excessive Scrap - Using the convection heating tunnel, the manufacturer was experiencing a 12 percent scrap rate.
- New Bulb Handling System - The installation of a new handling system for the light bulbs incorporated a turntable and did not physically work well with the structure of the existing convection heating tunnel.
Solution:
- Heat - Two Model 4085 Infrared Spot Heaters were installed on the new bulb handling system to cure the adhesive.
Benefits:
- Faster Curing Time - The Infrared Spot Heaters consistently resulted in the adhesive being cured by the time the light bulbs were packaged.
- Reduced Scrap - The consistent curing of the adhesive reduced the manufacturer’s scrap rate to less than two percent.
- Cost Effective - Installing the Infrared Spot Heaters was a cost-effective way for the manufacturer to replace the inefficient convection heating tunnel.
- Regained Floor Space - The manufacturer regained the 35 feet (10.7 meters) of floor space previously consumed by the convection heating tunnel.
