Below are several applications of our heating and control technologies. These applications range from simple to complex and from low temperatures to high temperatures. We try to utilize our “off the shelf” products to provide customers with a quick, yet effective solution or will take our collective years of experience and design a custom solution for your needs.

Extrusion

Precision Control Systems designs and builds custom thermal systems tailored to the demands of polymer extrusion processes, including silicone, PEX-A, rubber, and other specialty materials. Whether integrated directly into the extrusion line or operating as standalone modules, our systems are engineered to deliver the precision, throughput, and control required by modern extrusion facilities.

We work closely with each customer to engineer solutions that meet unique product dimensions, line speeds, and material handling requirements. Key design variables include:

Vertical Curing Tower
Used commonly for silicone and PEX-A extrusion applications, PCS’s vertical curing towers are the ideal choice to maximize production run time and line speed.
Horizontal Curing Cart (10)
Horizontal Curing Cart
High powered and easily adjustable inline curing system for horizontal extrusion processes. The PCS cart systems are compact, and commonly used to obtain a skin cure on rubber profile extrusions, as well as the complete curing system for silicone and PEX-A tubing.
Wire Cabel Heating and Jacketing (2)
Wire Heating and Jacketing Systems
Infrared heating chambers with polished elliptical reflectors focus emitted energy to an even Ø.25” line at the center of the chamber, providing high concentrations of heat flux. These heaters are ideal for wire line applications in which high line speeds are required, and rapid temperature rise is preferred.

Aerospace

Precision Control Systems builds custom high performance thermal systems for aerospace materials testing and process simulation. Our systems are engineered to meet the demanding requirements of aerospace development programs, including rapid thermal ramp rates, precise thermal cycling, and multi-zone control, all critical for evaluating material behavior under flight and reentry conditions.

PCS specializes in systems that simulate thermal profiles experienced in aerospace applications such as:

  • Hypersonic flight
  • Atmospheric reentry
  • Engine and turbine component qualification
  • Structural fatigue and delamination studies
  • Space vehicle materials and coatings validation

These systems support:

Modular High Tempature Thermal System (4)
Modular High Temperature System (NIAR)
959kW, multi-zone infrared heating system designed to replicate aerospace thermal environments for materials testing, structural validation, and flight condition simulation. The system delivers high density heat flux using PCS Model 5203 high temperature infrared heaters, and heater modularity provides the ability to test a variety of product geometries.
Flat Panel Thermal Simulation System (3)
Flat Panel Thermal Simulation System
420kW, high-power infrared heating system for controlled material testing and thermal characterization. This dual-sided flat panel system delivers uniform, high-intensity heat flux to test articles up to 12" × 13.5" (larger sizes available), supporting both open-loop and closed-loop thermal simulations.
Radial Thermal Simulation System (5)
Radial Thermal Simulation System
1.8MW, high-capacity radial infrared heating system for advanced aerospace simulation and structural material testing. The system delivers up to 1.8 megawatts of controlled radiant energy across three radial heating zones and one flat-panel zone, enabling precise replication of flight and reentry thermal conditions.

Web Heating and Drying

Precision Control Systems designs custom infrared and convection based systems for continuous web processing applications, delivering efficient thermal control for drying, curing, and heating of materials such as films, textiles, adhesives, coatings, and composites.

Our systems are designed to integrate into roll-to-roll processes, providing consistent heat delivery, optimized energy efficiency, and precise control across the full web width and length.

Typical Applications Include:

  • Drying water or solvent based paints, coatings, and adhesives
  • Heating metal web post galvanization
  • Thermal curing of inks, resins, polymers, and adhesives
  • Preheating bonding layers

Web Heating Line - Drying Painted Steel
Painted Steel Web Drying System
1.46 megawatt vertical infrared drying system designed to accelerate the drying of painted and galvanized steel sheeting in a continuous manufacturing environment. The system integrates medium wave infrared heating with forced air convection, delivering high-throughput performance while maintaining tight thermal control and energy efficiency.
Web Heating Line - Abrasive Pads (2)
Abrasive Pad Adhesive Curing
Precision Control Systems engineered a custom web handling and drying system for adhesive coated abrasive padding, designed to provide precise control and safe handling during continuous roll-to-roll processing.

Annealing, Brazing and Reflow Systems

Precision Control Systems develops infrared heating systems for metal conditioning, bonding, and reflow processes, including annealing, brazing, and solder reflow. These systems are tailored to meet the high temperature precision and repeatability demands of industries such as medical device and electrical component manufacturing.

Typical Applications Include:

  • Annealing of braids and wires. Systems available to accommodate reel to reel or batch processing.
  • Solder/tinning reflow of electrical connector strings
  • Brazing ovens for copper lug production

Precision Control Systems developed a custom pre-bake system for setting the shape of Nitinol braids formed onto ceramic-coated stainless steel mandrels. This system delivers highly localized, controlled heat to achieve proper thermal shape-setting prior to final processing.
Reel to Reel Reflow System (4)
Reel to Reel Electrical Pin Solder Reflow System
High-performance reel-to-reel infrared tin reflow system designed for continuous processing of electrical pin ribbon. The system integrates focused infrared heating, precision motion control, active cooling, and safety interlocks into a compact, operator-friendly unit.  

Lab Testing Equipment

Precision Control Systems provides off the shelf control and heater platforms designed for laboratory-scale testing, R&D, and process development. By combining our standard control systems with our spot, strip, and line infrared heaters, we enable researchers and process engineers to quickly iterate and validate their production process.

June 1998 – PCS is formed by ex-RI employees. PCS initially focuses on providing the control systems and support for more than 30 years of RI system customers. PCS adds personnel to expand its offerings from solely controls to infrared heaters and heating systems.

August 2007 – PCS purchases RI’s Infrared Heating Division along with the Research Inc. name. In this asset purchase, PCS acquires both the standard products that you can find on our product page and the key personnel that have the knowledge and capability to design, manufacture, and support these products.

June 2008 – Our effort to integrate over 50 years of RI heaters and systems into the PCS business system is accomplished. The result is an efficient organization, doubled in size, ready to respond to customers’ requirements with short lead-times, quality products and knowledgeable engineering and service.

Today – PCS/RI is a 20-person company with the agility to take on a variety of projects. We focus on our customers and our engineering to provide innovation and value in the industrial heating and automation markets.
