Flat Panel Thermal Simulation System

420kW, high-power infrared heating system for controlled material testing and thermal characterization. This dual-sided flat panel system delivers uniform, high-intensity heat flux to test articles up to 12″ × 13.5″ (larger sizes available), supporting both open-loop and closed-loop thermal simulations.

System Overview:

  • Total power: 420 kW, delivered via 14 high-temperature PCS Model 5203-16 infrared heaters
  • Configuration: Two vertical arrays (7 heaters per side) for bidirectional, uniform thermal loading
  • Water-cooled, position adjustable infrared shrouds to maximize system efficiency and reduce stray IR emitted to surroundings.
  • Stainless steel exhaust hood for fume extraction during high-temperature cycles
  • Integrated standalone frame with accessible test zone and adjustable heater positioning

Controls and Data Collection:

  • Dual pyrometer inputs monitor test article temperature in real time
  • Fully integrated closed loop control for precision temperature ramp/soak profiles
  • System monitors:
    • Coolant flow through water jackets
    • Air flow to IR heater assemblies
    • Heater output levels and mode (manual or auto)
  • Real-time monitoring and logging of all critical process parameters
  • Automated data storage for each test cycle
  • Excel-exportable files enable review and documentation of test conditions and outcomes
